ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Nancy L. Heinrich, M.P.H., is an epidemiologist who transforms the lives of people with diabetes – and their families – so they are in control of this disease and no longer living in fear of it. Through this lens of diabetes health literacy, she is working to change the course of the childhood obesity epidemic facing the United States today. Her extensive public health background includes communicable disease control work in HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, sexually transmitted diseases, and hepatitis. Nancy is a member of American Public Health Association and American Association of Diabetes Educators. She is a graduate of University of Alabama-Birmingham and Florida Atlantic University.
