Photo by Chad Miller via FlickrIn a recent post, What is the Best Format to Publish Your Book? Digital or Print? I explored the pros and cons of publishing a print vs. digital book. If you are promoting an online business a digital book has many benefits. An e-book can be easily downloaded from your site, or you can submit the manuscript to Smashwords to be converted to a format compatible with the various e-readers on the market. I have listed 10 ways an e-book can help promote your business.
1. You can bundle an e-book with a package of products which will add value to your services.
2. You e-book can be a sneak peek of a bigger book or product.
3. Give it away as a promotional item.
4. The e-book will increase your credibility and add value to your services.
5. When people sign up for your book it will help grow your mailing list.
6. If you have a large mailing list your blog will be more attractive to advertisers.
7. It can easily be converted to a print book
8. You can have a link to your e-book in your e-mail signature which will increase traffic to your site.
9. You don’t have to have lots of books in stock, either sitting in a warehouse, in your garage or on your kitchen table.
10. E-books can be easily transported on business trips. A business owner is likely to have his/her digital reader or computer with them if on a trip for easy accessibility.
What are some of the ways you have used an e-book to promote your business?
Do you often purchase e-books from other websites?
If you like the e-book, are you likely to purchase additional services from the business?

I'm actually in the process of writing an E-book right now for my Expat Consulting business I'm starting. I will be using it to launch bigger and better services, products along with more books to come. I think E-books are great!

Good stuff, Julia. Have you come to any conclusions about "best" e-reader?
@Sharon-I love e-books too. I think they are a great way to promote your business and new services.
@Heidi, We are still getting comments. So far I think the Kindle is the best for reading in the sun and battery life. The ipad is best if you want to read magazines and books that have graphics. I am still collecting data. I will review several and post in the next few weeks.
I have written 5 eBooks and just need to get them posted...looking forward to using them in my busines!!

Great information Julia - I haven't reached that point yet but... will be in touch if I do.
I went to the library today and they told me that you cant upload library books (at least here) to Kindle, it tends to be mostly Amazon books!
They suggest the upcoming iPad app, Literati and a couple of others.... hmmm. I would love more info on this subject if you get any.
Love reading your column.

Hmmm, I never really related e-books with preview calls, but after reading this post I can see the similarities. They're both used to build a list, give value, and lead to bigger and better products. They're both given away for free (generally) as promotional. Very interesting.
